The Lourdes project lies within the intersection of two major regional mine trends and is neighboured by several high sulfidation mining projects and exploration prospects. The property is approximately 400 kilometres southeast of Lima and is easily accessible by a paved, single-lane road originating in the town of Puquio, 155 kilometres east of the Pan American Highway. At 2,576 hectares, Lourdes represents a significant underexplored land package in the region.
Throughout the exploration timeline of Lourdes, Pucara’s technical team has discovered various similarities to some of Peru’s largest and most famous operating mines. Yanacocha is South America’s largest gold mine, a multi-million ounce gold mine operating in northern Peru. Like Lourdes, the Yanacocha Gold Mines are found at the intersection of major mining trends and began as a large low-grade granular silica deposit. Pucara’s geologists have noted vents and breccia pipes at Lourdes that are similar in size and level of mineralization to that of Yanacocha. These mineralized regions have provided clear drill targets for further exploration.
The property is underlain by a thick sequence of Tertiary-age volcanic rocks that host high-sulfidation epithermal precious metal deposits in the region. Pucara's geological mapping program has identified several prominent diatreme and volcanic vent structures that appear to have played a significant role in the alteration and mineralization found on the property. Recent rock sampling at Lourdes produced greater than 1 g/t gold with additional pathfinders guiding further exploration. This extensive high sulfidation gold system consists of a vertical feeder zone with multiple horizons of silicification. With well-defined geologic and geophysical drill targets.
